What North County San Diego Reddit says about local plumbers

Oceanside plumber Reddit threads are genuinely thin — there is no dedicated, active Oceanside plumber megathread, and most of what exists lives in r/northcounty, the regional North San Diego County subreddit, not in r/Oceanside itself. We read every thread we could find, kept the six that actually name a plumber, and did the one thing Reddit itself doesn't do: checked those names against our own CSLB-verified license records. Three of them matched independently. That overlap — not thread volume — is the useful part of this page.

Coverage is thin. Here's exactly how thin.

Honest scope

We searched reddit.com directly for "Oceanside plumber," "North County San Diego plumber recommendation," and subreddit-specific variants, then tried to fetch every candidate thread. Reddit blocks non-browser fetches (every direct pull returned a 403), so what follows was recovered from search-engine-cached snippets — real thread titles, real URLs, and real comment fragments as they appear in Google's and Bing's index. We found seven real, on-topic threads. One lives in r/Oceanside. The rest are regional (r/northcounty) or county-wide (r/sandiego). Several other search hits turned out to be false leads — a Texas subreddit with the same name as a North County city, an Australian subreddit that happened to contain the word "Oceanside," a spam-like promotional post — and we excluded all of them rather than pad the count. This is not "Oceanside Reddit has spoken extensively." It's a small, real data set, presented as exactly that.

The information gain

Three plumbers Reddit named — that we'd already CSLB-verified, independently.

These three companies were named, unprompted, by real Redditors asking for plumber recommendations in North County San Diego. None of those Redditors knew about our directory or our CSLB check. We ran our own license verification separately, for our ranked Oceanside list. The two data sets landed on the same three companies. Out of six threads with a named recommendation, that's a three-for-three hit rate — a meaningfully strong signal for a sample this small.

Mr. Rogers Neighborhood Plumbing

“Mr Rogers Plumbing did a great job for us.”

— r/Oceanside, "Recommended Plumber or Bathtub-replacer-person," early 2024. The single cleanest data point in this research: a Redditor posting in r/Oceanside itself, naming a plumber unprompted.

Names Reddit mentioned that aren't in our CSLB-confirmed records.

These companies were also named on Reddit, sometimes with equally strong praise. We have not run them through our CSLB confirmed-match process the way we did for the 12 companies on our ranked Oceanside list. That doesn't mean they're unlicensed — it means we haven't checked, so we're not calling them verified. Two (Hanna Plumbing, Plotke Plumbing) do publish a CSLB number on their own websites, which we spot-checked but did not run through our full confirmed-match process — so even those two stay in this list, not the verified one above. Here's exactly how to check any of them yourself — it takes about three minutes and it's free.

  1. Hanna Plumbing and Supply Inc (Vista) "I highly recommend Hanna Plumbing. We've hired them twice (fix shower leak, replace toilet, replace faucet) — all done really well." Publishes CSLB #705790 on its own site, not run through our confirmed-match process.
    Unverified
  2. The Works Plumbing (Oceanside) "I had the works plumbing in Oceanside replace my garbage disposal and would totally recommend them."
    Unverified
  3. Lone Rooter Plumbing "Steve and his son are honest, straightforward and do good work. I've known him for 25 years."
    Unverified
  4. EAVA Drains "EAVA Drains installed our toilets and repaired a kitchen sink for us. Very high quality work and they were very respectful of our property."
    Unverified
  5. Encinitas Plumbing (Encinitas) "Encinitas Plumbing is amazing. Father/son team and super responsive." Outside our Oceanside-first scope.
    Unverified
  6. Drain Runner (Carlsbad) Named alongside Water Wise as a water-heater-install "go to."
    Unverified
  7. Plotke Plumbing & Heating (Encinitas/San Marcos) "Highly recommend Plotke Plumbing. They replaced my hot water heater 2 years ago and were the most reasonably priced of about 6 bids I took." Publishes CSLB #1048184 on its own site, not run through our confirmed-match process.
    Unverified

On Bill Howe: one r/sandiego thread gives a qualified positive ("a larger company but... polite and respectful") for this county-wide chain, and an adjacent thread turns negative — which tracks with Bill Howe's public BBB record (2.5/5 average across 10 reviews, multiple pricing complaints). We're not listing it as a recommendation here, positive or otherwise; it's a large multi-service chain outside our Oceanside-focused scope, not a North County word-of-mouth pick.

The threads

Every source thread, linked.

Six threads with a named recommendation, plus context on how locals frame the ask. Read any of them yourself — nothing here is paraphrased past recognition.

"Recommended Plumber or Bathtub-replacer-person"

r/Oceanside · early 2024

OP needs a fiberglass tub replaced. Top answer names Mr. Rogers Plumbing unprompted (see verified overlap above). A second comment warns against a plumber "going by Anderson" but gives no license number or other identifying detail we could pin to a specific, still-operating business — so we're not repeating that warning as a named business claim.

"Emergency plumber recommendations near San Marcos?"

r/northcounty · 2025

OP is helping an out-of-state relative with an emergency issue near San Marcos, explicitly cross-checking Reddit against Yelp and Google. Names Willis Brothers Plumbing (see verified overlap above) and Encinitas Plumbing.

"Cost of water heater installation in Carlsbad CA"

r/northcounty · 2024

OP asks what a fair water-heater-install price is in Carlsbad. A commenter names Water Wise Plumbing (see verified overlap above) and Drain Runner as their regular picks.

"Plumber recommendation"

r/northcounty · September 2022

OP asks for a reliable, reasonably-priced North County plumber for a garbage disposal install, and whether the plumber or homeowner typically supplies the unit. Names Hanna Plumbing and The Works Plumbing.

"Anyone have a good plumber recommendation?"

r/northcounty · January 2025

OP in San Marcos needs two toilets and a sink installed plus a leak fixed. Names Lone Rooter Plumbing ("I've known him for 25 years") and EAVA Drains.

"Plumbers"

r/northcounty · date not recoverable, thread ID suggests 2026

Top comment recommends Plotke Plumbing & Heating for a water heater replacement, citing it as the most reasonably priced of about six bids taken.

"Plumber recommendations?"

r/sandiego (county-wide) · August 26, 2025

Not North-County-specific, included for completeness. Gives a qualified positive on Bill Howe, a large county-wide chain — see the note above on why we're not featuring it as a recommendation.

Synthesis

What North County Reddit actually looks for in a plumber.

Small, personally-vouched-for companies dominate the good recommendations. Nearly every positive comment names a specific technician by first name — Nathan Willis, Steve at Lone Rooter — or cites a multi-year personal relationship. Redditors here trust word-of-mouth tied to a person, not just a company name.

Nobody recommends the large multi-service chains without a caveat. The one big-brand mention in these threads (Bill Howe) comes with a "larger company but..." qualifier even in its positive form, and turns negative in an adjacent thread. That tracks with the CSLB data: the businesses North County Reddit actually vouches for are small, licensed, often family- or father/son-run outfits — the same profile as most of the plumbers on our own verified list.

Garbage disposal and toilet installs are a recurring "do I even need a plumber for this?" trigger. Two separate threads start from exactly that question — a real, recurring local search-and-ask pattern.

Warnings are rare but specific when they appear — and we're holding ourselves to the same standard on the way out as on the way in. The one clear warning we found couldn't be pinned to a specific, still-operating business with confidence, so we're noting that warnings exist in principle rather than repeating an unverifiable one by name.
