I am writing to explain the circumstances surrounding this remodeling contractor and why, despite the contractor initially appearing competent and capable of performing the work, his subsequent conduct constitutes a serious failure to fulfill his contractual responsibilities.
At the beginning of the project, the contractor presented himself as competent, experienced, and capable of completing the agreed-upon remodeling project. I had no reason at that time to believe that the project would not be completed. Based upon his representations and our written agreement, I proceeded in good faith and provided substantial payment, including payment for materials that were to be incorporated into the project.
However, the contractor's subsequent conduct was completely inconsistent with the expectations created at the beginning of the relationship.
After receiving substantial funds, the contractor failed to begin and/or complete the contracted work for an extended period. For approximately ten months, there was little or no meaningful communication or progress. The fact that a contractor may have been competent at the beginning of a project does not excuse his later failure to perform his contractual obligations.
Most importantly, the contractor had accepted money for materials for work that had not been started. The materials were left unsecured rather than being properly safeguarded until they could be installed. Those materials and/or equipment were subsequently lost or stolen. This created a substantial financial loss for me and was not the result of anything I did to cause the loss.
A contractor has a responsibility to act reasonably and responsibly with property and materials that have been entrusted to him for a construction project. Accepting payment for materials and then leaving those materials unsecured for an extended period, without completing the project, is fundamentally different from simply experiencing an ordinary construction delay.
The contractor's later indication that he was finally prepared to begin the project does not erase the approximately ten-month period during which he failed to perform or maintain adequate communication. By that point, the circumstances had materially changed. I had lost confidence that the contractor would complete the project in a timely and responsible manner.
This is not a complaint based upon the contractor merely being imperfect or making an ordinary construction mistake. My concern is the contractor's failure to perform, prolonged lack of communication, failure to complete the contracted work, failure to properly safeguard project materials, and the resulting financial loss.
A contractor's initial competence does not give him unlimited permission to abandon a project or disregard his contractual responsibilities. What matters is the contractor's conduct throughout the entire contractual relationship, including whether he performed his obligations within a reasonable period of time, maintained communication, protected materials and property, and completed the work for which he was paid.
I entered into this agreement in good faith and paid the contractor with the reasonable expectation that the contracted remodeling work would be performed. Instead, I was left with an unfinished project, substantial financial exposure, lost materials, and the burden of attempting to resolve a situation that should never have occurred.

Great experience working with this company. The team was professional, responsive, and easy to work with from start to finish. Communication was clear, and everything was handled efficiently.
You can tell they have a strong staff that takes pride in their work. Overall, a reliable company I’d recommend to anyone looking for quality service.
Job well done. Very professional and excellent craftsmanship! Would recommend!
Golden State Contractors can do it all. Big (house remodel, renovations, etc) or small (fence, plumbing, electrical repairs), what ever the task at hand is expect nothing but the best. Marko and his team are reliable, exceptional communicators, and go above and beyond the standard expectations. Truly a one stop shop. Give Golden State a chance, you will not be disappointed.
Marko has done a great job for us on several projects and is always great at communicating and responding in a timely manner. His work is excellent and he is professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend the company!
At St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in San Marcos, CA, our historic building—standing tall for many decades—faced a critical challenge when our roof required urgent framing repairs and adjustments. With heavy rains forecast and time running out, Golden State Contractors Inc. mobilized swiftly. Under the expert leadership of Marko Ribich, Owner of Golden State Contractors Inc., the team executed the repairs with exceptional speed and precision. They not only completed the work on time and on budget but also ensured our building was ready to be fully dried in before the rains began—all while our church continued to hold services without interruption.
Their professionalism, unwavering commitment, and meticulous attention to detail transformed a potentially disastrous situation into a smooth and efficient repair process. We are extremely grateful for their outstanding service and wholeheartedly recommend Golden State Contractors Inc. for any commercial or residential projects. Their expertise and dedication to quality make them a true partner in maintaining and enhancing our community structures.
Marko and his team of experts installed an electrical charging station at my home since I had recently bought an electric vehicle. Not only was Marko professional, but through his communication I felt very confident that the install was done properly and I didn’t have to worry about the safety of my home as such heavy electrical work can be a fire hazard if not handled properly. I highly recommend Golden State for any of your contractor needs!
Marco and Golden State Contractors, are100% in my book. Very honest, along with excelent work.
I can't say enough good things about Marko! He has done a fabulous job with every single repair he's taken on—big or small. His attention to detail, professionalism, and quality of work are outstanding. He shows up on time, communicates clearly, and always makes sure the job is done right. It’s such a relief to have someone so reliable and skilled working on my home. Highly recommend!
I just had my bathroom remodeled by Golden State Contractors, and I seriously couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Marko was super easy to work with, really listened to what I wanted, and made the whole process smooth and stress-free.
One of my favorite features is the custom walk-in shower — it turned out better than I imagined, with super clean tile work and a really sleek glass enclosure. The attention to detail was spot-on, and everything came together perfectly.
The whole project was done on time and within budget, which is always a huge plus. If you’re thinking about remodeling, I definitely recommend these guys. They crushed it. Thanks again for making my bathroom look so good!
