I cannot say enough good things about Need For Build – Contractor. Finding a contractor I could trust was extremely important to me, especially after a very disappointing experience with a previous contractor.
Before working with Need For Build, I had a contract with another contractor—a large, well-known contracting company in San Diego. Unfortunately, when I needed them to come back and finish my project, I repeatedly tried reaching out and received no response. To make matters worse, they ended up keeping my deposit. That experience left me extremely frustrated and, honestly, made me lose a lot of trust in contractors.

Then I found Need For Build – Contractor, and the timing couldn't have been better. From the very beginning, they immediately took care of my needs and made it clear that they were committed to earning my trust. They didn't just make promises—they followed through.

Osher was my main point of contact, and he was absolutely phenomenal. He always kept me in the loop, communicated clearly, answered all of my questions, and made sure I knew what was happening throughout the entire process. What impressed me most was that Osher wasn't someone who simply signed the contract and disappeared behind a desk. He actually showed up on-site several times to personally make sure everything was moving along smoothly. That level of involvement and accountability made a huge difference for me.

The entire Need For Build team was incredible. Nico, Chris, Augustine, Michael, and Francisco were all professional, respectful, hardworking, and genuinely great to work with. Each of them left a memorable impression, and I truly appreciate the effort they put into the project.

After my previous experience, I was hesitant to put my trust in another contractor. Need For Build changed that experience completely. They showed me what it looks like to have a contractor who actually cares about their clients, communicates, follows through, and stands behind their work.

I can't thank Osher and the entire Need For Build team enough. They earned my trust, delivered an excellent experience, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a reputable, reliable, and trustworthy contractor. Five stars without hesitation! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To be clear, I did not start a project with Need For Build, so this review is by no means a judgement on the quality of their work, but this is my personal experience which lead me to not hiring them, which I feel is worth sharing.

Put simply, if you LOVE sales pressure and if money is no object whatsoever then this probably doesn't affect you, but feel free to read anyway.

If perhaps you have money to spend but not limitless amounts, or like me you like to be budget conscious and make sure you are not spending unnecessarily then read on.

I asked for estimates for a two-tier retaining wall to be built, complete with a patio to blend in around my pool. This would replace old brickwork, coupled by an old deck. I was very clear on my vision so i didn't need any architecture consultancy sessions or anything of that nature.

I am almost certain that the quality would have been fine. For me though, it is the intense sales pressure, coupled by the extortionate pricing compared to other, locally owned, equally as licensed and rated companies that I had already received quotes from.

From the get-go it was a giant sales pitch. My wife typically doesn't like to be involved with the estimate process but there was a consistent line of questioning of "where is your wife?"..."will your wife be joining us today?", "perhaps when we come back, your wife can join us" all because they are banking on being able to play the emotional, romantic card to add more features and more $$. Not impressed when they kept asking after I had told them she wouldn't be a part of this process.

Next was the need for the first visit to be 2 hours long. So, we split it into two visits. They couldn't send me an estimate until we had sat in person. So, we did that. 90ish minutes on the second visit and a 50-slide power point presentation about how licensed they are, how many awards they have won, why they do things a certain way. Educational yes, but excessive.

We come to the end. The big reveal. The grand finale! The drums were rolling. The curtain pulls back and...HOLY CRAP! 3 x as much as the next highest quote and that was BEFORE materials. (they have this weird thing where they send you to choose your materials and buy them from the vendor at their discount, but no clue how much that part would be).

I was pressured to committing there and then for a 15% discount, even though I had been clear from the start that I was just gathering estimates and wasn't committing to anything.

The estimate on the screen was extremely detailed, line by line. I asked her to send me a copy of the estimate as I wanted to look at it privately. She said it would take a week to do that. Why, i do not know. I have never heard of that before. Nonetheless, a week went by and nothing so I had to chase up a few times. What I got was a summary estimate. Not an itemized one. When I asked, I was told that the itemized one could only be viewed in person. Huh?

The reason I wanted it was because I am thorough and I like to make sure I am spending wisely. For example, in our meeting they had added demolition and haul away (even though I had said i would be doing it myself) at a rate of $8,000 +/-. This is a good deal more than the other guys. I like to be able to identify where my money is going.

All in all, I won't be moving forward with them. The price is crazy high. But more so, the sales pressure was incredibly off putting and just not a great experience. Don't be fooled by the accolades, the licenses that they spend hours pouring over. Its all legit, but many other contractors carry the same licenses.

Do you homework, vet other builders and make sure they are doing the work and have the proper licenses etc, but for sure, these guys are not the only game in town by a long shot.

Less sales, more listening.

We just had “Need for Build” redo our backyard and put in turf, and it came out great.

Osher was our project manager and he was on it from day one. Answered every question we had, kept us in the loop, showed up when he said he would. Never had to chase him down for anything, which was honestly a nice change.

The whole thing got done faster than they told us it would. I kept waiting for the usual delays and they just… didn’t happen.

Were they the cheapest? No. We got a few other quotes that came in lower. But after seeing how they ran the job, I get why. They showed up, they did the work right, and they finished early. That was worth the difference to us.
