My AC broke in the middle of a heatwave topping out at 105 degrees. I called Eddie on Friday and he very kindly got me in on Saturday morning. He put a hard start kit on the unit and released refrigerant, in an effort to bring the pressure down and left.
Within hours the system stopped working again. When I called him, he was already home, but drove 40 mins back to my house to try to resolve the issue, which I was deeply grateful for.
When he arrived, he released more refrigerant and told me it should be fine. Within 15 mins of his departure, it stopped working again.
For all of this he charged me $275. Given none of it resolved the issue, he then told me he would try to get me in on Monday and would have to run a Leak Search Scope. On Sunday, he sent me a quote for $1,700 to do the leak search scope.
Thankfully, I got a second opinion from another company, who was able to fix it, and immediately discovered the fan was overheating and replaced it.
Eddie's attempts to fix the issue are now costing me money to replace the refrigerant he removed, in addition to the $275 of charges that didn't resolve the problem. I tried working with him to see if he would replace the refrigerant that was removed, given it didn't resolve the issue and is going to cost me roughly $500 to replace it. Eddie's response to my request to replace it was that he only removed less than a pound. The new company I'm working with said it was a lot more than that. Given I had the refringent checked in April, and it now needs three to four pounds after his visit, I'm inclined to believe the new company.
As a point of reference, the wholesale cost of refrigerant is roughly $45 a pound. Most HVAC companies charge customers between $110 too $150 per pound. It would have been a low cost and fair resolution had Eddie agreed to replace what he released on his two visits.
While I appreciated his efforts to get me in quickly on Saturday, his visit resulted in $775 of unnecessary costs to me.
Adding to this review in response to the owner's note. Eduardo Cruz is the owner of this company. Eduardo Cruz is the one who came to my home and cost me $775 in unnecessary expense. The owner references reviewing the technician's service notes. HE was the technician. This all could have been resolved had you done the fair and right thing and replaced the refringent you removed, which represents a wholesale cost to you of $45 per pound versus the $110-$150 per pound I'm going to be charged to fix it. I am now out of pocket $775 for things that never resolved the problem.
