Oftentimes customers are surprised by how long a flushing of a tankless water heater takes. We totally understand this. We understand that flushing a tankless water heater can take longer than a customer may expect. Unlike a traditional tank water heater, a tankless unit has a heat exchanger with small internal passages that can accumulate mineral and scale buildup over time. Properly flushing the system requires circulating a descaling solution through the heat exchanger for a sufficient amount of time to dissolve that buildup. The process typically includes connecting the flushing equipment, circulating the descaling solution, allowing adequate time for it to work, thoroughly rinsing the system, and then returning the unit to normal operation. The total time can vary depending on the age and condition of the water heater and how much mineral buildup is present. We want to make sure the service is done thoroughly rather than rushing the process and potentially leaving scale or deposits behind. This helps the unit operate efficiently and can help extend the life of the heat exchanger. Sometimes with harder water quality or if the heat exchanger has a lot of small deposit build up, it can take longer. The manufacturer requires a minimum flushing time to stay in warranty as well.
