Unfortunately google doesn't have an option for 10 out of 5.
We just finished a full home build with Tourmaline. We'd been hearing horror stories about working with builders for years, and we keep telling people how different this was.
This was the project of a lifetime for us. We put everything we'd worked for into it, and they never once treated it like routine work. They respected what it meant to us and what it was costing us, and that mattered more than anything.
Communication was our biggest concern going in, and they were exceptional at it. We lived abroad for a lot of the build and never felt out of the loop. They updated us constantly, ran a platform with photos so we could watch the house go up, and any time something came up we could get on it with them and have it sorted right away. When you're in another time zone, that's everything.
They were also straight with us about timeline and budget, and both came in close to what we planned. They caught problems we never would have spotted ourselves, explained them, and dealt with them early, before they got expensive.
They treated our house like they were building it for their own family. The best example is the mess we ran into with SDG&E, which can stall a project for months and blow up a budget. They stayed on it constantly and kept the rest of the build moving at the same time (even though the SDGE issue took 6 months to resolve due to SDGE's timeline). Without them we'd probably still be under construction and way over on cost.
A lot of that comes down to Adam and Cyndi, our two main contacts. If you get to work with them, you'll be thrilled. They were responsive, honest, and they cared about getting our house right. They feel like family at this point and we'd work with them again tomorrow (though next time we'll look for something already standing, because ground-up is a marathon).
Everyone told us building a house would be miserable. Ours wasn't. Best in the business, without a doubt.
